Public liability insurance can cover your small business if a member of the public claims they were injured or their property was damaged because of your work, premises or products. It may help with legal costs and compensation, subject to the policy terms, exclusions and chosen cover limit. It is not generally a legal requirement, but some clients, landlords, trade bodies or contracts may require it. It is separate from employers’ liability insurance, which is usually required if you employ staff; check your risks and policy with an FCA-authorised provider.
